Back ground images is obviously an important part of your blog. Though they are not usually attention grabbing (you don’t want them to be attention-grabbing or it will compete for attention with your main content), they do form the overall look and feel of a blog.

If you don’t understand the significance of that, you should check out my previous post on How to Decrease Bounce Rates.

This article is about where to get high quality background images. I used to pay to get them designed (like the one I’m using here) because I didn’t know I can get them for free. Well, thanks to the post in Blogging Tips, I now know a few awesome resources where I can get background images for my next blog venture, and I would like to share them with you.

They are:

  1. SquidFingers. This one contains numerous (158) background patterns of all in this list, though I find them of a lower quality than other in this list. Still, you should check them out just in case something hit home for you.
  2. BgPatterns. This website allows you design your background images from various canvases and images. Plus, you can even change their colors and rotate the images if you like. I’m not much of a designer so I don’t think I’ll be using them…
  3. ColourLovers. This is the largest community-driven background images resource in this list. There are some really awesome ones that I’m already planning to use for my next blog. Definitely a must-visit.
  4. DinPattern. Not much here but they are all really high quality images. Plus they have a preview feature where I don’t see in others.
  5. GrungeTextures. You should check this out if you’re looking for grunge backgrounds. Not my cup of tea but some people may like it.

How To Install Background Images In Wordpress Blogs

Once you downloaded the image you like, upload it either to a free image hosting website like PhotoBucket or you can FTP and upload it to your own hosting.

Then navigate to the “design tab” in wordpress control panel then click the “Theme Editor” sub-tab. By default, wordpress should show your css code.

Browse down and probably at the first few sentences, there’s a line that says “background-image: url…”. In that bracket, paste the URL of you image, save it and you’re done!

Very well written post however, I would recommend that you turn the No Follow off in your comment section.

    Keep up the good work.
