Web Copywriting Tip #1 - Using Squidoo To Drive Traffic

by Andre Thomas on July 12, 2008

2 days ago I talked about Squidoo. What it is and how it works. Today, I’m going to show you how to use it to not only drive traffic, but drive a pre-qualified one… plus I’ll show you what’s Squidoo got to do with web copywriting. This is advanced stuff.

Squidoo is very well liked by the search engines, especially Google. Once in a while you’ll hear about Squidoo getting the google slap and I want to reassure you that the one google is slapping, is not squidoo - it’s the guy who created that particular squidoo lens, because you see, google wants to stay in business.

For Google to stay in business, it’s got to deliver relevant content and for it to deliver relevant content, it’s got to slap those jack-asses. If you aren’t one of them, then don’t worry which website you post your content to, they’ll all be picked up by google.

So here’s what you can do with Squidoo. You create a lens based on the keyword you are targeting. There’s no need to worry about a lot of the seo (search engine optimization) stuff because Squidoo does it for you in the background. (Part of the reason why google love it so much) All you have to do is enter your keyword into the title and so on.

Give it some good content and you’ll rank high… unless of course, someone else is already ranking for it. Then what do you do?

That’s where the real challenge is and here’s the step by step guide. By the way, did you know that some of this very information is sold by a guru selling a "How-To-Squidoo" book… some of them are not even included. Ignore all those junk because this is all you need :

1. Write a good bio. Go to the top 100 list and swipe one of the bio that you like most. Create one for each of your lens and make it about the keyword you are targeting.

2. Make sure your introductory paragrapgh (the first module) is keyword rich and contains links to your desired website.

3. Make your lens as interactive as possible. It should go without saying that the more content you put in, the more search engines will love it.

4. Use one of  Squidoo’s get attention module to prominently display a link to your website.

5. Use good tags. This is where keyword research. Go to google and search for your keyword. Open up the first 10 pages and view source. Look at their keyword and you have yourself a nice tag list.

6. Post as little distractions as possible so that people are more likely to click on your link. Do not use amazon module and such unless you want to make your money on Squidoo itself.

7. You can donate 100% of your income from Squidoo to a charity and you’ll have the option to turn off some of the advertising. Since you are not there to make money ( you are there to drive traffic), you should do this because it will get more people to click on your link instead. Plus, you’ll be doing a good thing. Let me tell you from personal experience that it’s worh it.

8. Once you’re done, publish it and you’re done. You should outrank pretty much everyone else in squidoo who’s ranking in google, unless of course, they also read this blog post.

9. Then you create a special offe for your squidoo readers. Add a little extra bonus and drive your squidoo traffic to a special website where you present that special offer.

10. Sit back and watch your traffic grow and your conversion shoot through the roof.
