It’s no secret that people don’t read anything online anymore. Scratch that. They don’t read anything anymore.
As a copywriter, blogger or anyone who writes for a living, that presents a huge problem for you - you write and if nobody’s reading, you’re out of job.
To counter the problem, you crafted a compelling headline and presented a professional look . What’s next?
Well, the next logical step is to open powerfully. Your opening paragraph is what most people read after they finish the headline. Now, you’ve got about 5 seconds or so the quickly capture their attention and hook them in.
The clock is ticking so you’ve got no time to lose.
The best way is to get right into the core of your message - which is the reason why people got to your sales page in the first place. Remember that your customers will always be interested in why they are there - what’s in it for them?
With that in mind, here’s what you can say in your opening sentence:
- Reassure their suspicion. "It’s true! Cancer research has finally found a safe and natural way to cure the dreaded once and for all!"
- Start with an interesting fact that affects them. "Did you know that fruits are not healthy foods and that it’s perhaps the reason you’re overweight?"
- Plant fear. "Copywriting can make you a lot of money as long as you keep to this one simple rule."
Once you get the opening paragrph right, you need to make sure that the rest of your sales copy follows the same rule: the objective of every sentence is to get your reader read the next sentence.
Of course, it’s easier said than done. That’s why you need to attend copywriting courses if you ever want to succeed.
