The psychological triggers in this post is one of the oldest persuasion techniques people have ever used.

The “foot in the door” technique is popular among door-to-door salesmen. If you’ve bought anything from them (who hasn’t?), you probably already witnessed the power of this trigger.

The idea behind “foot in the door” technique is basically to get someone to agree to something small, so that they’ll agree to something bigger later on. For example, door-to-door salesman would ask the owner of the house if he could come in to demonstrate just how powerful the product he’s to trying sell.

Ever heard of the saying, “No man is an island”? As it turns out, we can’t and don’t want to be an island because, you see, most of us possess something called “The Herd Mentality“.

As humans, you and I tend to agree with the opinion of the majority. We flock together to form a tribe, a society, a country. And we all strive to to be accepted into a group.

Just as I’m sure you’ve been peer pressured to doing something you regret later on.

Blogrush Is Dead…

by Andre Thomas on October 31, 2008

Having been absent from the online world for the 48 hours or so, I came back to find a surprising news: John Reese had finally pulled the plug on Blogrush.

I’ve used Blogrush since its inception, and though I never received much traffic from it (as do most other bloggers), I’ve always believed with a brilliant mind like John Reese behind it, it would someday be refined and fixed. Well… I was wrong.

Back ground images is obviously an important part of your blog. Though they are not usually attention grabbing (you don’t want them to be attention-grabbing or it will compete for attention with your main content), they do form the overall look and feel of a blog.

If you don’t understand the significance of that, you should check out my previous post on How to Decrease Bounce Rates.

How To Find And Use Great (And Free) Images For Your Blog

Images play an important part in blogs and websites in general. They not only make the page looks good, they are also a great way to capture attention and direct the eyes to where you want them to go.

Honestly speaking, I don’t think this blog would have been what it is without all the images I get from flickr. And yes, those aren’t my images but I do get to use them for freelegally.

Doing Less And Achieving more

In his fantastic book, Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking, Malcolm Gladwell talks about how multiple studies actually showed that people who are given more information make less accurate decisions.

This is pretty interesting because I think this is what’s holding back a lot of people to achieve what they dream - be it writing a world-classes sales copy or just make money online.

Here’s why.

You see, there’s certainly no shortage of information in the world today. Whatever you’re striving to do, the exact information on how to do it is probably already within your reach. The only problem is you can’t implement it.

Note: This keyword research guide is for beginners only. If you have been doing keyword research and making money as a result, you might want to skip this post.

Despite popular claims, marketing online is hard work. It doesn’t matter which approach you take.

E-commerce sites, eBay store, web sales letters, adsense, blogging and so on. They are all hard work.

Obviously you don’t want to put in those precious hours into your venture only to realize that it’s not working out. That’s where keyword research comes in.

Is SEO Copywriting Worth Your Time?

by Andre Thomas on October 19, 2008

SEO copywriting is one of those subject that always puzzles me. As a web copywriter, I’m often approached by business owners, marketers and bloggers about SEO copywriting.

My answer is always the same. Why do you want to spend so much time and effort on it? I think SEO copywriting is overrated. It’s probably not worth the time and effort you put in to get it done in the first place. Here’s why.

The Secret Guaranteed To Help You Write Better

by Andre Thomas on October 17, 2008

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race

~ Calvin Coolidge

I have always attributed my success to persistence and so does many other top copywriters. The late Gary Halbert once told a story where he copied, by hand, the most successful sales letters of his time over and over again just so he can absorb the way those successful copywriters write.

How To Decrease Bounce Rate

by Andre Thomas on October 13, 2008

One of the most important metrics us bloggers have to take note of is the bounce rate.

Note: If you haven’t been tracking your users, you should start now. Not doing so means you’re “flying blind”. Google Analytics is free and awesome. You can get it at http://www.google.com/analytics.

What is Bounce Rate?

The bounce rate tells us how many people who arrive at your website “bounce” out to another site. That means they didn’t click through to another page in your site or they didn’t stay on the current page long enough (30 seconds for Google Analytics).
