People tend to hate self-promotion. You know, people who toot their own horn and correct your grammtical mistakes. I hate them.
On the other hand, sometimes people are just plain stupid. You know, the people who don’t really know what they are talking about but goes around preaching truths. You know better, and you want to shout it to the world.
But how can you do that without being labeled as boastful?
Getting someone else to toot your horn
The easy way is to just get someone else to toot your horn… and pay them if necessary. But that’s clearly not gonna work! You might exclaim. Clearly we are rational people who realizes that the person tooting your horn is paid to do so.
Or so you might think.
As it turns out, we mere mortals don’t normally put enough weight into situational factors when considering behavior. It’s so common, in fact, that social psychologists calls it “fundamental attribution error”.
And once the person you paid recommended you as an expert, you’re free to voice whatever you opinion you’ve got… and guess what? People will listen. Because we all pay attention to what an authority figure has to say.

You don’t always have to pay people to toot your own horn, if you have people who use your services, and are happy with them ir it, ask them for a testimonial or to blog or write about you and your services.
Press Releases are also great way to seem like you are not tooting your own horn, toot your horn to Journalists, make yourself sound GREAT and they will let the world know how great you are, usually for free if they write a colum about you.
Let someone else toot your horn by submitting your blog to Spotlight Blogger.
