How I Got PR3 In 2 Months - Building Links

by Andre Thomas on October 4, 2008

Let me be clear right from the beginning. I think the importance most people place on PR is absurd. PR is only a system Google uses to determine the importance of your website. It’s nothing more than that.

Unless you’re selling ad space and the price you charge is based on your PR, I’d suggest you ignore PR altogether. The only number that concerns me when I build my website is this: profits. If my PR drops to 0 and my profit rose by a mere 1%, I’m still a happy man.

Ok, with that said, let’s get started. To be frank, I don’t even know I’ve got a PR3 until I received an email from a reader that asked me how my PR jumped from 0 to 3 in the past couple of months. Then i received a couple more emails asking the same questions - thus this blog post.

This blog is pretty new. It’s created back in April 08 (with only 4 posts on it before I stop)  but I didn’t start to actively post on it and promote it until July. Now, I don’t know when was the last PR update (was too busy with profits) but I think it’s somewhere in Sept. If someone knows the exact date, please tell me and I’ll update this post.

Ok, now to the techniques. The things I do are aimed at improving my search engines rankings - not at improving my PR. But for some reason, it got a bit of a boost too.

I’m sure you already know the basics of SEO. You know, optimizing title, keyword targeting and all that. One of the most important factors in SEO, is of course, link building. The more links you have pointing to a particular page, the more importance Google places on that page.

So a lot of people go out and do all kinds of stuff to get links. They buy them (which I think is the dumbest way of doing it unless that link also brings you tons of traffic), they post comments for the links and they spam forums.

To me, the purpose of commenting is to build relationship, not to get a link. If commenting is part of your link building strategy, then I think you’re wasting a lot of time because it’s a very slow way of doing it. The same goes to forum posting and joining blog networks like Blogcatalog.

The Best Way To Build Links

The kind of links you want are called context links. A context link is a link that is within an article, like those you see in this post. A link that is part of a list of links (like in a blogroll) do not have as much juice as a link in a post.

That is why article marketing and guest posting are so powerful. You get to link in the context of a post.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Writing articles or blog post is way more time consuming than a simple comment. That’s true if you are doing it the traditional way. You see, something SEO gurus don’t tell you about link building is the sheer amount of links you require to rank for competitive terms.

Popular blogs have more 50,000 links pointing to them, how long is it going to take for you to out-build-links if you do it the traditional way? Months or even years!

So I took a shortcut. I leverage every article I wrote. I turn one article into hundreds.

The Tools I Used To Leverage My Articles

There are mainly three tools that I use to do this.

1. Traffic Kahuna (TK)

2. Article Marketing Automation (AMA)

3. Unique Article Wizard (UAW)

They are sorted according to the level of recommendation. And yes, they all involve monthly membership fee. If you plan to sign up for any of them, I’d suggest making time to submit at least 2 articles a day or don’t do it.

Before you run off to their website, let me warn you that if you’re on a tight budget, I suggest that you don’t sign up for all of them. I’ll give you a detailed review later on.

Basically what these tools do is “spin” your articles and automagically submit a unique copy into blogs and article directories. Of course, just like any worthwhile spinners, you’ve got to provide your own replacement words. So yes there’s some work involved in getting your articles prepared.

I personally submit at least 2 articles to each of them everyday. In a productive day, I submit 4 -5 of them. Yes, I get my articles written for me on www.elance.com so I only have to spin it. It takes me about 30 minutes or so to spin one article. (You can do something something less boring, like watching a movie or listening a movie while doing it.)

Traffic Kahuna

Traffic Kahuna is the most comprehensive system among all three of them. It has a couple of tools inside. They include

1. Blog Feeder, which allows you to post articles in other people’s blogs (there are a lot of them).

2. Article Feeder, which allows you to exchange articles with other members automatically. You submit the article and they system automatically finds an appropriate website for the exchange.

3. Blog network, which allows you to create a blog in a subdomain of a high PR site. There are so far 3 high PR websites you can get a subdomain on.

4. There’s three way link swap. This is self-explanatory.

5. Web 2 co-op, which allows you to post “job” on their board. You get points for rating, digging and so on and you can spend those points getting people to do the same.

The great thing about Traffic kahuna is the fact that they provide so many tools all in one place. Blog Feeder allows you to submit your articles to 30 blogs (posted every 6 hours), while article feeder will slowly build the number of articles that is distributed across the network.

Though I must say the web 2 co-op community is disappointing. I’ve posted several jobs (a link on a PR7) website that no one has taken.

The blog network is definitely useful. I’ve got these blogs ranking higher than my main blog in some terms. If you want to the best results in terms of SEO, TK is the system to go for.

Article Marketing Automation

Article Marketing Automation doesn’t automatically post your articles like Traffic Kahuna does. What AMA does is it slowly presents your articles to blog owners in their network. If they approve it, you articles will be published. Of course, there are also a lot of people who set it to auto-approve.

Speaking from a publisher point of view, this isn’t as great as Traffic Kahuna, although you can potentially get more than 30 published articles. Depending upon the category your articles belong to, it can be pretty hard to find blogs to publish it since the network is relatively new.

For example, I’ve got articles about vision improvement, which I ended up publishing in general health blogs because there are no blogs dedicated to eyes/vision.

Unique Article Wizard

Unique Article Wizard is the most un-user-friendly of them all. It requires quite a few steps to get done and it looks to me there are some bugs (though they are minor ones).

Instead of posting to a network of blogs, unique article wizard posts to article directories. As such, it can get you way more backlinks than the previous two would. If you have a general subject such as “health” or “business”, it can submit to 1000 or so article directories.

You can limit the submission to 50 a day and the system will send you a report email everyday. The problem is, you never know if those articles are really submitted or not. They have an auto-generated link where you can search for your articles in Google, but so far, I only see about 10 results instead of the thousands because it takes a while for Google to index the articles.

Again, takes longer to take effect than posting to blogs.

Still, with some patience you can get yourself a massive collection of backlinks.

Have you used these services before? What do you think of them? Do you know of other article spinner/submitter you would like to recommend? Share your thoughts in the comments section!

When you say they “spin” your articles, do you mean they rewrite the same content in like 5 different ways and post all of this duplicate content in various nooks of the Net?

Yes, that’s I mean. And if you think that’s not a legitimate way, I have to disagree. Even people like John Reese encourages his readers to submit their articles to as many directories as possible.

When you do that, it allows people to easily locate your materials. For example, people who read articles in Ezine Articles may not read articles in Article Dashboard.

I couldn’t agree more with you on the power of article marketing. I’m messing my hands a little bit with AMA and I’m pretty much sold using it to spin articles my way or the other way. Either way, it works for me.

As for the other two, I’ll need to have a look at it. Oh ya, congrats on your PR3 and to achieve it in 3 months is an achievement in itself.
