DIY Design Optimization of Your Blog

by Andre Thomas on September 9, 2008

If you don’t know why a blog’s or website’s design is so important, you should check out my post on how you can increase conversions without changing a word. Since that post is published, there are several readers who told me that while the post offers great advice, most of them can’t afford to have their blogs or websites professionally built!

And they have no idea how to do it themselves.

So the objective of today’s post is simple: To direct you people who are facing the same problem to resources that will help you get started on design optimization. I’m sure there are lots more out there and if you have some suggestions, leave it at the comments section!

  1. Five simple steps to better typography - Your website’s typography is one of the most important factor in web design. This article is a must read if you’re serious in optimizing your typography.
  2. I talked about color schemes in my previous post but I never showed you how to choose a good one. Well, Color Wheel Pro wrote an article on how to do that… Warning: for the advanced users only.
  3. Avangate also wrote an article on how to choose colors for your website, a must read if you’re serious on the subject.
  4. I also talked about displaying your logo in my previous post, but what if you have no idea what you want your logo to look like? Well, this article by David Airey shows you what makes a good logo design.
  5. Last but now least, here’s a general overview on what makes a good blog design.

I hope those resources will help you in designing your own website. Keep in mind that if you want to build a quality website, it WILL take some time - especially if you’re new.
