5 Web Copywriting Tips To Increase Revenue By Charging Less

by Andre Thomas on July 26, 2008

It’s a no brainer that charging less will almost definitely allows you to sell more… there are exceptions to this rule, which I discuss later in my next post.

But for now, I want to show some wickedly cool web copywriting secret some of the pros are using to boost their profits. Unlike what you’ve been led to believe, there’re a very specific steps you need to take to increase sales by decreasing price. You can’t just put up discount signs and expect people to come buying.

If that’s true, no shop will ever have to close down. So what must you do to ensure a successful "firesale"?

1. First, you’ve got to tell people why you’re offering a discount to your "high demand" products. Most people just fail to realize that people are all skeptics. Why would you sell it at such a lower price if you product is that good? Of course, your customers don’t know that by charging less, you’re making more.

2. The reason you provide can be anything at all. Maybe it’s Christmas or even your son’s birthday. Heck, I saw a well-known online marketer that said he’s offering his course for only $1 because he wanted to "get back at his former student who ripped his stuff and selling it".

3. Limit the discount you are offering, either by date or by quantity. Letting a discount continue indefinitely is a recipe to fail because we humans are natural procrastinator. If we can do it tomorrow, we’ll do it tomorrow.

4. Offer dollar-off coupons instead of %-off coupon. A recent marketing sherpa study showed that offering fixed amount coupon (eg. $50 off your next purchase) results in 170% more revenue than %-off coupon… even if the amount taken off is actually identical.

5. Craft your discount offer to be as logical as it can be. If you offer a 75% discount from the original price, perhaps taking off one of the bonuses you offer might actually increase your response, which is what happen to me. I think it’s because people think it’s "too good to be true".

There, the 5 web copywriting tips I promise you. Can you use it NOW? If so, don’t procrastinate, do it now!
