It doesn’t matter how much traffic you drive to
your website, if they don’t convert, then you
don’t any make money. So here are some web copywriting
tips to your your boost subscriptions…
But before I go into detail, why subscription?
Why not just sell them? That’s a good question.
Here’s the answer: Studies have shown that only a
very low percentage of visitors to your website
buy on their first visit. In fact, it takes an
approximately 7 follow ups before they actually
make a purchase. It is, therefore, vital you
capture your visitor’s email address to follow up
later on.
Now that you know the why, let’s get on to the
how. Here are the web copywriting tips I promise
you:
1. Always always keep your forms as short as
possible. Whatever information that you do not
need at that point in the conversion process,
leave it out. Short forms convert better than
long forms… almost everytime.
2. If you do require a long form, break it up
into small parts but not more than 5 small parts.
In my own private test, I found that breaking up
long forms into short forms increases my
conversion by about 5% but once it hits 6 parts,
people tend to abandon the form perhaps thinking
it’s never going to end.
3. If you absolutely must require long long forms
that breaks into more than 5 parts, use a
progress bar to show them how much longer before
they can finish the form… but I highly
recommend that you don’t do this.
4. If there are any information that are not
crucial but would be nice to have (for analytics
purposes), tell your visitors that it’s optional.
5. Mention your privacy policy very clearly
in your form. If you have other paid assurance
services, that’s all the better. Make sure people
are comfortable signing up.
6. Take away that "clear" button if you have one
because humans don’t usually fill out long forms
with the wrong information. What humans sometimes
do, is click the wrong button, cleared all the
information, get frustrated and leave cursing you
why did you put that button there. So unless you
are expecting other things than human to fill out
your form, it’s best for your conversion rate to
take it away.
7. As for your "submit" button, name it
differently. Use phrases such as, "subscribe now
to get your free report" or "Yes! Give me my free
training!"
8. And don’t use normal buttons, use graphics to
grab attention.
9. You want to make sure
people are aware your form exist so make sure you
make it stand out from the rest of your webpage.
There are two things you can do and they are:
using a different color background or use images
to attract attention.
10. If you do use images to attract attention to
your forms, make sure the image are relevant and
helps your conversion process.
11. Lastly, make it as easy for your visitors to
fill out the form as possible. Don’t put
restrictions on how they should write their
information. For example, I came across several
forms that requires me to fill out my phone
number in a certain format. Well, it pisses me
off when they don’t tell me which format do they
prefer. Which brings me to my next point…
12. If you do require a certain format, explain
what you need and why!
